artistic process

I started this project no knowing at all what I wanted to do, but wanting to try new mediums, be very intuitive, and see what came up. I started experimenting with sculptures and clay and mixing that with my paintings and drawings from my sketchbook.

I decided the clay sculptures I was making needed a place to be. So, I created an environment for the sculptures to live in by building a plywood box that was a about my height. I muraled the inside with layers of acrylic, spray paint, and ink drawings. Adding little stories to the walls.

I then made shelving for the sculptures and gathered found materials from random places not with a shopping list per say but with the agenda to fill the room with texture. I found resin fake teeth off ebay, a 5$ toilet from craigslist, and a plastic doctors set from the dollar store, some real treasures. I love these little touches because they represent the small random objects that sometimes bring the most joy.
